TCDD is pleased to announce the selection of Canen Melton as the regional coordinator for East Texas. In his position, Melton will serve as the go-to person for disability-related issues in his region. He will raise awareness about TCDD and share opportunities for people to get involved in TCDD projects.
Through a partnership, TCDD and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service (AgriLife) created the regional coordinator roles to better understand the needs of Texans with developmental disabilities and their families at the local level. Melton is one six regional coordinators working across Texas. Other TCDD regional coordinators include:
- Morgan Bradley, Program Manager and Coastal Region;
- Erin Fogarty, North Region;
- Rosa Guel, South Region;
- Skyler Mueller, West Region; and
- Shelby Vaughn, Ed.D., Central Region.
Regional coordinators share information, resources, and educational training related to disability topics. They make connections with individuals and organizations in their regions and foster a broad network of disability advocates and experts.
Melton previously held positions as a nutrition educator in the nonprofit sector and as an intern in municipal government. He is a member of Pi Kappi Pi and The Ability Experience, a charitable organization that promotes inclusion for children with disabilities. He is passionate about promoting community health and nutrition education. In his free time, Melton enjoys spending time with his dog, Sadie, running, and frequenting Lake Texoma with his family.
Melton holds a health science and nutrition degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. He is based at the AgriLife office in Overton, Texas. He joined TCDD on July 18, 2022.
