Training Opportunity – Road to Recovery Applications Open

The Texas Center for Disability Studies is recruiting applicants for its training program, “The Road to Recovery: Supporting Children with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Who Have Experienced Trauma.” This program is free for selected applicants. The deadline to apply is Nov. 14, 2022.

About the Program

The Road to Recovery training was developed to address the lack of knowledge and awareness for the mental health needs of children with developmental disabilities (DD) and to build better systems to address those needs. The training offers DD professionals, mental health professionals, family members, educators, direct care workers, and others valuable insights into how to support children with DD in healing from trauma. It provides new perspectives on behaviors caused by trauma that are not addressed by traditional intervention models.

Program participants will receive training by industry experts, including nationally renowned trauma-informed care expert Dr. Karyn Harvey. By the end of the program, participants will be educated and prepared as master trainers. Master trainers will join an ongoing learning community and are expected to offer the training to others.

The training will consist of six virtual training sessions. Attendance at all six sessions is required. The training times and dates are as follows.

Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. CT

  • Jan. 17, 2023

  • Jan. 31, 2023
  • Feb. 7, 2023
