Summer Intern 2021 – UX/ UI Accessibility Intern

The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) is accepting applications for a UX/UI Accessibility Internship for Summer 2021. Reporting to the website administrator, the UX/UI Accessibility Intern will work closely with TCDD’s communications team to help launch a new website that is centered on leading practices in accessibility. The intern will gain valuable experience in usability and accessibility testing, as well as quality control and project coordination. This is a great learning opportunity for a driven and detail-oriented undergraduate or graduate student who is passionate about accessibility and inclusion.

Work will be conducted virtually, and the intern will be expected to collaborate with the TCDD team using Zoom and Microsoft Teams. The deadline to apply is May 14, 2021.

Internship period: June 1 – Aug. 31, 2021
Hours: 10-12 hours per week, flexible Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Austin, TX and remote
Pay: $2,000

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Help design and administer usability and accessibility testing for a new website
  • Collect observational data from user experience research
  • Monitor accessibility quality and control
  • Help Communications team research best practices in UX and UI
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned, tailored to the intern’s personal interests and goals

Qualifications and Skills:

Required:

  • Must be attending an accredited college or university
  • Must have completed two or more courses (graduate or undergraduate) in website design
  • Prior experience working as part of a team
  • Excited to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
  • Prior experience with WordPress websites
  • Prior experience in usability testing
  • Interest in graphic design and branding
  • Proficiency in WP Engine, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Dreamweaver

TCDD was created through the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act and is one of 56 councils on developmental disabilities in the United States. TCDD receives federal funds through the U.S.Administration for Community Living (ACL), which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

TCDD is guided by a 27-member board made up of people with developmental disabilities, family members,representatives of state agencies, and local service providers who support people with developmental disabilities. TCDD council members are appointed by the Texas governor.
