Every two years, Texas lawmakers meet in Austin for a 140-day regular legislative session. TCDD monitors legislative activities and public policy changes that could impact programs and services for Texans with developmental disabilities (DD).

89th Texas Legislature
In 2025, the regular session of the 89th Texas Legislature began on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and adjourned on Monday, June 2. During the session, we shared the following information:
- Bill of the Week: We highlighted noteworthy bills that relate to our Public Policy Priorities and other important issues for Texans with DD.

Bill of the Week: End-of-Session Wrap-Up
The TCDD Bill of the Week highlighted 19 pieces of legislation. Here’s where they ended up.

Senate Bill 66 would require a study on authorizing supported decision-making agreements to include assistance in legal proceedings. The bill was authored by Sen. Judith Zaffirini.

Senate Bill 1952 would designate the Health and Human Services Commission as the sole administrator of the School Health and Related Services (SHARS) program in Texas. It was authored by Sen. Angela Paxton.
