Research and analyze the current state of sexual assault prevention, reporting, and criminal prosecution in cases involving people with developmental disabilities (DD) in Texas
Project Summary
Through collaborative research and technology development, the INDEX Program of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center at the University of Massachusetts Medical School will gather and share information about cases of sexual abuse and assault involving Texans with DD. The project’s research will emphasize themes of clarity, inclusiveness, accessibility, and consistency, and will incorporate the views of sexual assault survivors, experts in the field, and other stakeholders.
Researchers will also select a high-priority focus area to develop training curricula for self-advocates, family members, service providers, and others who are involved in sexual assault response and prevention. Ultimately, the project’s work will inform a research-driven approach to increase the number of people with DD who understand and can identify instances of sexual assault as well as develop strategies to ensure survivors have access to the appropriate supports and services.
