The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth — Treatment for Substance-Use Disorders

Project Goal
Improve the quality of care and services for people with developmental disabilities (DD) who experience substance-use disorders

Project Summary
The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth will address gaps in knowledge, training, and clinical practice for professionals serving people with DD who also experience substance-use disorders. The project will develop training materials and practice guidelines for health care providers, including training modules delivered through live presentations as well as online resources. The practice guidelines will include an interdisciplinary, team-based approach to provide DD-informed substance-use treatment and care.

Systems improvement is needed to help people with DD who experience substance-use disorders as well as psychiatric disorders or trauma. TCDD funding in this area supports projects that expand access and improve the quality of substance-use disorder services.
