Texas Tech University — Advanced Leadership Training for Professionals (Project Leadership Challenge)

Texas Tech University — Advanced Leadership Training for Professionals (Project Leadership Challenge)

Project Leadership Challenge developed a training program to support future leaders of organizations that provide services to Texans with developmental disabilities (DD). The program addressed a need for more leadership-focused staff development opportunities for Texas organizations, which can lose valuable institutional knowledge and experience as existing leaders retire.

The program’s highlights included:

  • Nearly 100 participants from more than 20 Texas agencies gained skills and developed team projects to transform their organizations and improve their services.
  • Participants joined in-person training sessions at Texas Tech University in Lubbock and annual conferences featuring expert speakers.
  • The program offered frontline supervisor training from the National Association of Direct Support Professionals to strengthen participants’ management and team-building skills.

Project Leadership Challenge was part of a TCDD initiative to develop advanced leadership training for professionals. The initiative included projects that trained the next generation of leaders in the professions serving people with DD. Participants gained knowledge and developed skills to lead improvements in DD-related service and support systems across Texas.
