Project Goal
Increase awareness of present-day disability advocacy topics for Texans with developmental disabilities (DD)
Project Summary
Imagine Art is collaborating with Disability Rights Texas (DRTx) on a project called Channels 4 Self-Advocacy to produce a series of educational videos for people with DD. The videos will cover resources people with DD can use to enhance their self-advocacy and quality of life. The project will also provide participants with opportunities to practice advocacy skills.
The videos will cover topics such as:
- Texas Health and Human Services Office of the Ombudsman;
- Medicaid waivers, including appealing denied waivers;
- Medicaid income and asset limits for long-term care service;
- Person-centered planning; and
- DRTx’s intake process.
Through Capacity Building Mini-Grants for Self-Advocacy Groups, TCDD supports local self-advocacy groups in building their organizational capacity to become more established in their communities, create partnerships, and conduct formal activities. As a result of project activities, organizations will expand their role and impact.
