Project Summary
The project provided an inclusive statewide advocacy and leadership training program focused on developing skills for individuals with developmental disabilities (DD) to become confident self-advocates involved in advocating for the issues that are important to them. The training included a comprehensive curriculum of the history of the disability rights movement, self-determination, self-advocacy skills, and education on issues facing the disability community. The leadership development and advocacy training program was designed to support people with DD in increasing their disability advocacy awareness as well as their self-confidence as advocates and leaders to meaningfully participate in advocacy opportunities. Easterseals of Central Texas worked with other Texas Easterseals affiliates, including affiliates representing rural areas, to ensure that the training was available to to a diverse population.
