Adapt-Able Foundation — Adapt-Able Scuba

Project Goal
Provide people with developmental disabilities (DD) with opportunities to experience scuba-diving and other community activities

Project Summary
Adapt-Able Scuba addressed barriers to people with DD participating in outdoor activities and community events. Participants had the appropriate supports to receive scuba training and go on diving excursions to local pools and outdoor areas. The project also trained diving instructors to become certified adaptive diving “buddies.”

Through Community Inclusion projects, organizations create opportunities and address barriers so people with DD can experience full community life. Full community inclusion is defined as participating in education, employment, and social activities in the community alongside people both with and without disabilities. Ultimately, the goal of these projects is to produce short-term and long-term systems change.
