Are You Registered to Vote?
The November 2024 elections are coming up! The deadline to register to vote in Texas is Oct. 7. Register to vote today and make sure your voice is heard.
Voter Registration Requirements
You are eligible to register to vote if:
- you are a United States citizen;
- you are a resident of the county where you apply;
- you are at least 17 years and 10 months old on the date your voter registration application is submitted and 18 on Election Day;
- you are not a convicted felon (you may be eligible to vote if you have completed your sentence, probation, and parole); and
- a court has not declared you as being ineligible to vote.
Check Your Registration Status
You can check your registration status online. My Voter Portal allows you to check your status quickly. Enter your name, date of birth, ZIP code, and the county you live in. The portal will show you if you are registered and voter details such as your address. If you need to change your voter information, you can do so here.
Register to Vote in Your Community
There are community resources available to help you to register to vote. When you register in person, you don’t have to mail any information. Simply fill out a form and a registration official or volunteer will submit your application.
Each county has a voter registrar office. You can find the location and contact information of your voter registrar here. You can register to vote in person at your local office during working hours.
Public libraries are also a great resource for registering to vote. The Texas Election Code designates each public library, including any branch or other service outlet, as a voter registration agency. Find your local library, register to vote, and maybe find your new favorite book!
You may also find voter registration tables in your community at places such as coffee shops, bookstores, town halls, and more. Always confirm that the people taking registrations are certified to submit your registration.
Register to Vote by Mail
To register by mail, complete an application using the Texas Secretary of State online voter registration application. Fill in the required information, print the form, sign it, and mail the completed application directly to your county election office.
You can also request a printed application. You will receive a postage-paid voter registration application in the mail. Once you fill it out, you will need to mail the application back.
Remember: If you register by mail, your application must reach your county election office by Oct. 7, 2024.
