Children’s Disabilities Information Coalition — Leadership Development and Advocacy Training led by Self-Advocates

Project Goal
Support self-advocates as they develop leadership skills; participate in local self-advocacy groups and partnerships; and become more visible leaders in their communities

Project Summary
The Children’s Disabilities Information Coalition, in partnership with El Paso Del Norte Youth Leadership Forum, will develop and test a self-advocate-led program to support people with developmental disabilities (DD) in the El Paso area as they work toward meaningful independence, self-determination, and greater inclusion in their communities. The training curriculum will incorporate peer-support assistance, and it will be based on proven leadership training models such as the Partners in Policymaking program. The project will also develop the El Paso Del Norte Youth Leadership Forum into a fully functioning, independent self-advocacy organization.
