Council members awarded grant funding to continue ongoing projects, discussed initiatives to improve health equity and service delivery for Texans with disabilities, and more.

With the regular session entering its final five weeks, lawmakers will soon face several bill deadlines. Find upcoming hearings to watch and bills that recently received comments from our policy staff.

HB 5206 relates to penalties for false representation of animals as service animals. The bill was authored by Rep. Vikki Goodwin.

The Senate passes SB 133, which would ban using physical restraint and chemical irritants on students enrolled in fifth grade or below; and SB 477, which would improve disability voting accommodations.

HB 773 would prohibit the practice of school-initiated undocumented early pickups. The bill was authored by Rep. Alma Allen.

The full Texas House begins considering bills, including a proposal for a co-navigator services program for people who are deaf-blind and a measure to create a statewide IDD coordinating council.

Texas HHSC is conducting a needs assessment survey to gather input about aging services for older Texans. The deadline to complete the survey is Aug. 26.
