Texas Tech University — Project Leadership Challenge

Project Goal
Develop a leadership training program to prepare the next generation of leaders working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Project Summary
Project Leadership Challenge is a leadership development training program for leaders of provider organizations in Texas. Many leaders of organizations that serve people with IDD are leaving the field due to retirement, resulting in a loss of institutional knowledge and experience. Texas lacks a system to develop the next generation of leaders in the IDD field. Current leaders have limited training options to improve the services their organizations provide.

Through Project Leadership Challenge, small teams will acquire skills and develop projects to transform their organizations so the people they serve experience an improved quality of life and increased community inclusion. Teams will complete four days of training at Texas Tech University (TTU) in Lubbock before developing projects. The program will conclude with a two-day conference at TTU, where teams will share information about the successes and challenges they experienced while implementing their projects.
