A grassroots campaign is calling on Texans to educate policymakers and the public about the benefits of Medicaid and what could happen to individuals if Medicaid is reduced or eliminated. The campaign, My Medicaid Matters Texas, is a collaboration of more than 100 state and local organizations dedicated to educating legislators, policymakers and the public about the positive benefits that Medicaid brings to Texas. About 3.5 million Texans rely on Medicaid services and supports.
A news conference was held at the capitol on May 8, 2012, to kick off the statewide campaign, and advocates are meeting in Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth and Houston to work on it. Advocates are also participating in a variety of events to tell people about the educational campaign and why Medicaid is important.
