TCDD Seeks Director of Communications and Reporting

The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) is seeking a senior-level Director of Communications and Reporting to join our team and oversee external communications for TCDD. The position is based in Austin, Texas.

Overview

The Director of Communications and Reporting plays a critical role in the coordination of public information and public relations activities for TCDD. This includes creating and disseminating announcements, news releases, and editorials to multiple audiences. This position develops and designs material for the TCDD website, manages social media, and edits agency reports and other publications, assuring all communications are culturally appropriate and reach target audiences. This position is also responsible for hiring, training, counseling, and evaluating the TCDD Communications team.

The Director of Communications and Reporting aids in the editing and distribution of policy briefs, project outcomes, state and federal reports, as well as preparing materials for Council members and posting procurement requests on the TCDD website. The position will develop strategies for improving marketing practices and manage outreach campaigns to promote TCDD-funded grant project outcomes and policy priorities.

Additionally, the director will summarize data, experiences, and stories from grantees to communicate project impact with TCDD audiences and compile in an annual performance report submitted to TCDD’s federal funding agency. The position also provides technical assistance, reviews, and design recommendations for TCDD materials, resources, and grant products that can be distributed to the public.

The Director of Communications and Reporting is expected to work independently and use initiative to perform essential functions. This position will represent the unique role of TCDD at local, state, or national meetings and conferences to promote the Council’s mission and priorities. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with state agencies, disability and advocacy groups, grantees, legislators, news and media outlets, and other stakeholders. This position may require minimal travel within the state of Texas to perform on-site monitoring, as well as attend grantee events and quarterly Council meetings.

The Director of Communications and Reporting is responsible for hiring, training, counseling, and evaluating the TCDD Communications team, which includes two Communications Coordinators, a Web Administrator, a Leadership Training Coordinator, and occasional interns and contractors. The position will supervise team members’ work activities to assure they meet Council standards, goals, and objectives. The Director of Communications and Reporting is selected by and accountable to the TCDD Executive Director. This position will be located at the TCDD office, 6201 E. Oltorf St., Ste. 600, Austin, TX 78741.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have:

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in communications, marketing, journalism, or public relations.
  • Experience: At least four years of professional experience in journalism, public information, communications, media relations, marketing, or public relations work is required. Experience in public information or public relations work for state agencies or legislative offices is preferred.
  • Substitutions: Education and experience may substitute for one another on a year-for-year basis.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range is $5,258.66-$7,083.33 monthly and is part of the Total Compensation Package for State of Texas Employees. Learn more about the compensation package on the State Auditor’s Office website.
