The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) has issued Requests for Applications (RFA) for two new grant opportunities. These grants will provide culturally inclusive family support and share the stories and experiences of Texans with developmental disabilities (DD). The deadline to apply for both RFAs is 11:59 p.m. CT on Nov. 17, 2023.
You can learn more about these RFAs on the TCDD Funding Available page and find details on how to apply for them.
Culturally Inclusive Family Support
In the last 12 years, TCDD has successfully established relationships with several groups that are focused on providing and promoting culturally inclusive supports for families of people with DD. These grants enabled groups to expand their ability to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities who are part of an ethnic culture. The work conducted by the grantees also provided TCDD with more in-depth knowledge of barriers that may prevent many Texans with DD from receiving the full benefit of existing services and supports.
TCDD will support specific capacity-building and information-sharing activities led by an organization that is a leader and trusted source for the cultural group with which it seeks to connect. Up to five organizations will have the opportunity to significantly improve the availability of culturally inclusive supports for families of people with DD from specific ethnic communities. Additionally, an increased number of these families and individuals will become active advocates or self-advocates participating in the delivery of community-based services.
TCDD has approved funding for up to $125,000 per year, per project, for up to five projects. Each project may be eligible for funding for up to five years. Learn more and apply.
Texas Storytelling Project
Stories link us together. Throughout history, stories told among families and communities have been used as a strategic tool to advance social movements and missions.
TCDD announces funding for an organization to collect, summarize, and distribute stories and personal experiences across the multiple areas that impact the lives of people with DD in Texas. The project will seek professional writers and photographers to connect with people with DD — including young adults, college students, adults, employees, entrepreneurs, siblings, parents, and others — about their experiences related to the TCDD Public Policy Priorities and other topics in the TCDD State Plan.
The selected entity will also provide technical assistance to TCDD state plan sub-grantees on collecting and summarizing both individual and system change stories within their projects. This will include training, skill building on topics such as conducting interviews with program participants, identifying program progress and outcomes, and writing stories for quarterly submission to TCDD.
TCDD has approved funding for up to $300,000 per year, for one project, for up to five years. Learn more and apply.
