The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension hosted 20 online Community Conversations to gather input from people interested in disability-related issues. Community Conversations were part of the TCDD Listens campaign. The ideas shared during the events will inform TCDD’s state plan and future activities.
Throughout June and July, more than 500 self-advocates, family members, service providers, and others participated in the events and shared their experiences and ideas. Each Community Conversation focused on a specific topic.
Some of the topics included
- accessible transportation;
- alternatives to guardianship;
- early childhood intervention;
- employment; and
- home and community-based services.
Also, more than 40 people shared their input using the TCDD Listens Input Form. The form provided an alternative way to participate for people who were unable to attend a Community Conversation.
