Project Period

Project Objective
The goal of this project is to increase advocacy effort and leadership opportunities for individuals with disabilities in rural areas. This project will take place in West Texas where no other project like this exists. The goals will be achieved through the development of a self-advocacy curriculum that will be used to promote and support leadership with individuals with disabilities in rural areas. Successful completion of this project ensures that individuals with disabilities will be more fully included in leadership activities and developments along with better-educating family members and community members about different methods to incorporate well-rounded programs that are inclusive to all individuals. It is also expected that the trained individuals will experience a better understanding of their rights and advocate for themselves on a deeper level than previously reported.
