Texas A&M University Health Science Center — Culturally Inclusive Family Support

The Texas A&M University Health Science Center is supporting and training Chinese American families of people with developmental disabilities (DD) to enhance their advocacy and leadership skills. In addition to facilitating group support sessions and online training, the project helps participants become certified community health workers through the Texas Department of State Health Services.

This project is part of a TCDD-funded initiative to promote culturally inclusive support for families of people with DD. Past projects have expanded the capacity of community groups to improve the lives of people with DD who are part of an ethnic culture. Past projects have also helped TCDD gain a deeper understanding of the barriers that prevent people from accessing the services and support they need to make informed choices about their lives.
