Side-By-Side Texas is a social media campaign conducted during Developmental Disabilities (DD) Awareness Month (March). The campaign is designed to raise awareness about the importance of inclusion of people of all abilities. All over Texas, people with and without disabilities make contributions to their communities, participate in meaningful employment, and have fun together — side-by-side.
You are encouraged to participate in Side-By-Side Texas! When you share a photo or video on social media, you’ll be raising awareness within your social network about the importance of inclusion of people with and without disabilities. You may also inspire others to participate.
It’s easy to get involved in Side-By-Side Texas — just follow these three simple steps:
Use your phone or camera to take a photo or short video of you and another person or a group of people participating in activities in your community, side-by-side.
Add the photo or video to your favorite social media platform (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
Include the hashtag #SideBySideTX and post your photo or video.
Examples of potential photos or videos could include a group of students learning together in a classroom, a family taking a stroll in their neighborhood, or a team working together on the job. Another example could be as simple as two friends just spending time together — side-by-side selfies are welcome. Check out the Side-By-Side Texas Example Posts for ideas.
If you want to participate and need help explaining to others what the campaign is about and how to participate, download and print the Side-By-Side Texas How-To Guide. You can give the how-to to your supervisor at work, your teacher at school, or anyone else who can help you get involved in the campaign.
What if I Don’t Use Social Media?
If you don’t use social media, you can still participate in Side-By-Side Texas! To share your photo or video, just contact Joshua Ryf at (512) 437-5441 or email email@example.com.
