New Summaries Help Compare Health Care Plans

Health Care - Take health care into your own handsAll health insurance companies and group health plans are required to use the same form that provides an easy-to-understand summary about their benefits and coverage, making it easier to compare different health care plans. In addition to the plain language Summary of Benefits and Coverage, there is a glossary of commonly used terms in health insurance coverage, such as “deductible” and “copayment.” The SBC also includes examples of coverage under two situations, normal delivery of a baby and services to help a person control type 2 diabetes. You have the right to receive the SBC and the glossary when shopping for or enrolling in coverage or by asking your issuer or group health plan for them. If you don’t speak English, you may be entitled to receive the SBC and uniform glossary in your native language upon request.
